Celebrating 75 Years Of Song

This year marks the seventy-fifth anniversary since the society was first formed by pupils of the Nottingham Bluecoat School.

Originally created as the Nottingham Bluecoat Gilbert & Sullivan Company, it put on annual performances of all the major G&S operas in suitable venues around the city. Highlights of which were several annual shows at the Nottingham Co-op Arts Theatre, the Theatre Royal and Nottingham Playhouse. We also performed at the Buxton International G&S Festival, as well as participating in Nottingham Festival Opera.

Some of the members also formed the London Concert Chorus and travelled widely around the UK in support of Raymond Gubbay’s celebrity G&S concerts.

The Society evolved into the Nottingham Bluecoat Singers when the staging of grand operatic performances became too expensive. It now performs for charity and community events in and around the city, raising funds and awareness for organisations that appreciate the help as well as quality music and entertainment.

We will be partying in July next year. Watch this space for more information as it unfolds…and an invitation to come and help us celebrate an important milestone.
